THE DETAILS

Are we getting a Target? Where’s Target? Why can’t Quincy get a Target?

Those questions now have been answered.

Target’s store at 3701 Broadway opened on Wednesday, Aug. 9. It will be a day not soon forgotten by West-Central Illinois shoppers.

The aisles were filled looking at sporting goods, housewares, books, electronics, health care, pet supplies … everything you would expect to find at a Target.

The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a grand opening celebration set for Sunday.

Target in Quincy will carry the entire product portfolio for Hearth & Hand, a home and lifestyle brand exclusive to Target developed in cooperation with Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia product line.

Ulta, the largest beauty retailer in the US, also has a huge presence at the Quincy Target. With a diverse range of products with various price points, Target’s partnership with Ulta particularly appeals to Gen Z, who are known to be beauty enthusiasts.

Two sections in the store are dedicated to parents looking for back-to-school supplies.

Target, headquartered in Minneapolis, has more than 1,900 stores in 50 states and employs nearly 450,000 people.

Store director Heather Risenhoover, a Liberty native who returned to Quincy from Georgia, says only a few employees have transferred into the Quincy store from other locations. More than 100 people are employed by Target.
