In Quincy, March 1845 is also when the first German-speaking Methodist Episcopal church was formally organized.

The location was 524 Jersey Street. Construction was completed in July 1846.

But that was just the start.

Construction of a bigger church would follow, and then the construction of a second German-speaking church, Bethel M.E., located at 12th and Jefferson.

Union United Methodist Church, at 11th and State, traces its origins back to both churches.
