THE DETAILS

From the Quincy Area Community Cat Coalition:

With heavy hearts we must announce that we lost little Piper this morning. Despite the best foster mom and medical support, at only 1.1 pound and 4-5 days without food or water, her little body couldn’t overcome those obstacles. She had companionship and love since her rescue. Thank you for all who worked so hard during and after she was rescued from the pipe. RIP precious baby

PREVIOUS STORY

QUINCY — It wasn’t the old trope about firefighters rescuing a kitty from a tree, it was better.

On a cloudy Sunday afternoon, some compassionate cat lovers including the regionally renouned fur-friend Sally Westerhoff and The Cat Coalition including Steve and Elliot Auch and other neighborhood heroes, came to the rescue of one tiny kitten.

The little kitty had fallen down a drain pipe in a yard at 823 Jersey and couldn’t get up. Sally said the kitten had been trapped down there for the past four days.

Some friends at the Cenex gas station at Eighth and York put the word out as did Sally via Facebook. People became interested and were following the rescue of this little one throughout the day.

Between the online interest and the dedication behind the dig, it goes to show the true appreciation for life — no matter how big or how small.

The little kitty, dubbed “Piper” by Sally, was eventually successfully rescued later that evening. It turned out to be this black cat’s lucky day.

WRITER’S NOTE: I’m so glad I went and checked it out around 5:30 p.m. Sunday after a pool day and some Busch Latte’s with my Dad (Happy Father’s Day!) to get the scoop on the scoop. One bad hair day was so worth watching this pawsome teamwork in action. BB
