THE DETAILS

QUINCY–The portion of pipe that broke last week, flooding the water treatment plant and prompting a city-wide boil order, has been replaced.

The work was completed on Wednesday morning as upgrades to the facility continue.

“We have a major rebuild of the pump station, which has been there since the late 1800s,” Quincy Director of Public Works Jeffrey Conte said. “The last major upgrade was in the 1950s, so we’re working on that and working on some very important flood proofing.”

During an extended interview on the topic with “Minutes with the Mayor” podcast host Ashley Conrad, Conte explained that while the flood wall protects from river flooding, it also traps water that is released during a pipe break.
