THE DETAILS

For months, members of the group Q-RILE (an acronym for Quincy for Registration Inspection Licensing Enactment) collected signatures from members of the community to get their ordinance proposal on the ballot for the next election. After securing enough signatures, the proposal is set to appear as a ballot referendum on Tuesday. As it is non-binding, even upon voter approval, it would still need to be passed by the Quincy City Council to be enacted.
The proposal calls for the implementation of a comprehensive and proactive rental inspection program that utilizes a grading system to “reward” landlords with well-maintained rental properties and to prevent “bad” landlords from renting out properties that are unsafe and unlivable. However, the Quincy Landlord Rental Association (QLRA) believes the ordinance would punish “good” landlords and drive up housing costs.
Muddy River News’ Aspen Gengenbacher is joined by Brennan Hills of Q-RILE and Conlon Carabine and Jackie Weisenburger of the QLRA to take the debate on the ordinance out of the Facebook comments and into the studio to bring voters the accurate information they need to know.
